I am drawn to stories that center human connection. Whether you are crafting a nonfiction book, or launching a new podcast, I provide a collaborative, supportive space to refine your voice and connect with your audience. When I'm not writing or editing, I'm working as a botanical artist, tending my plot at my local community garden, or writing my newsletter, "Making Sense," where I celebrate and reflect on the art and science of the senses.
I'm Kate, a writer and editor based in the San Francisco Bay Area. I work with authors, scientists, and organizations to tell stories about health, psychology and wellbeing that feel deeply human. After more than a decade working in-house as an editorial producer and story editor at NPR, Gimlet Media, Spotify and Malcolm Gladwell's Pushkin Industries — with clients including Apple, Madison Wells, and Johns Hopkins University — I launched my own editorial consulting business in book and audio editing. In recent years, I've worked with creative collaborators such as the UC Berkeley Greater Good Science Center, cognitive scientist Maya Shankar, and psychologist Dacher Keltner.
Editing Philosophy
My approach is rooted in collaboration and trust. I know how difficult and vulnerable it can feel to bring your creative vision into the world, whether through a book or a podcast. Consider me your creative partner who will help you get past the logistical and emotional roadblocks. I offer rigorous and constructive feedback with clarity and kindness, and I tailor my editing approach to your working style, because I know everyone processes creative feedback differently.
